Matt represents a wide range of clients in the areas of workers’ compensation, construction litigation, employment litigation and personal injury. Whether he is representing individuals, local businesses or large corporations, Matt provides responsive, cost-conscious, outcome-based representation for his clients.

Matt has tried in excess of 100 jury trials. He is licensed in both Alabama and Georgia. Located in East Alabama, Matt represents all types of clients, whether an injured worker making a claim for workers' compensation benefits or a large national corporation being sued for millions. Matt understands that the process is the same for each - clear and concise communications with the client regarding the merits of the claim and probable outcomes, combined with excellent legal representation in the courtroom and in the pre-trial process.

REPRESENTATIVE CASES


  • Obtained substantial verdict, plus attorneys' fees and costs, on behalf of subcontractor against general contractor for unpaid invoices under Alabama’s “Little Miller Act,” on a $100 million construction project. The judgment and attorneys' fees were ultimately affirmed by the Alabama Supreme Court.
  • Obtained defense verdict on behalf of a sawmill operator whose ex-employee sued for racial discrimination.
  • Successfully represented individual insured in declaratory judgment action filed by insured’s own insurance company asking the court to declare that insured did not have coverage for automobile accident in which other driver had died (and had sued insured for wrongful death). Court declared coverage existed and ordered insurance company to defend and indemnify insured.
  • Successfully defended a quarry operator from claim by nearby landowner that quarry was discharging excess water onto its property, wherein jury returned verdict for a fraction of what Plaintiff was seeking.
  • Successfully defended insurance company against insured’s claims of Breach of Contract and Bad Faith Failure to Pay wherein insurance company had denied coverage for house fire.
  • Successfully defended temporary employment agency against OSHA claims that agency failed to adequately train its employees.
  • Successfully represented hundreds of workers’ compensation claimants in obtaining workers' compensations benefits.
  • Successfully represented powerline operator in condemnation proceedings wherein jury ultimately determined that claimant's property was valued at less than powerline operator had previously offered.
  • Prevailed in recovering substantial workers’ compensation lien on behalf of employer, wherein employee suffered catastrophic injuries and later recovered against third-party.
  • Successfully defended general contractor against claims from subcontractor’s employee for personal injury wherein jury returned verdict for a fraction of what Plaintiff was seeking.
  • Prevailed on behalf of defendant employee against claims from employee’s previous employer that employee breached terms of non-compete agreement.
  • Successfully provided representation in both Alabama and Georgia for national temporary employment agency on all types of matters, including workers’ compensation, OSHA matters, contractual matters, collection proceedings, etc.
  • Defended quarry operator in multi-million dollar litigation wherein quarry was sued by local government agencies and nearby landowners for allegedly dewatering groundwater and causing massive sinkholes. Cases were settled after initial test trial established representative value of claims.
  • Successfully defended national retail chain in claims by shopper that she was wrongfully arrested and prosecuted for passing bad checks. Obtained summary judgment on behalf of retailer which was ultimately affirmed by Alabama Court of Civil Appeals.
  • Successfully defended national retailer against many slip and fall claims.
  • Tried many criminal jury trials in his capacity as both Assistant District Attorney and City Prosecutor for the City of Auburn.
